Chandler, Arizona is a middle-class suburb of Phoenix that boasts a very central location relative to surrounding cities. It is home to several large facilities run by technology giants that provide much of the town's employment. Though the technology sector is big in Chandler, it has a much more extensive history and, through the years, has been the home of cotton farming, ostrich farming and, at one time, was the home of the only Veterinary surgeon in all of the Arizona territory.

Chandler has its own city council and public works department. The city has just over 170,000 residents, according to the 2000 census. Housing runs the gamut from comfortable, simple tract homes to more unique structures. The community is vibrant and tends to be educated, owing to the proximity of the technology manufacturers who constitute some of the major employers in the area.

One of Chandler's most well-known features is its annual Ostrich Festival. At the beginning of the 20th Century, there was a very large demand for ostrich feathers, which were used by women as an accessory for their hats at the time. When this demand diminished due to changing fashions, the industry largely evaporated from the city but the tradition still remains.

There have been significant efforts by the city to attract technology manufacturers to the area and there are now several facilities in operation which employ many of the town's residents. There are also shopping centers, including malls, within the city itself which eliminates the necessity to commute to Phoenix or other urban centers for those needs.

There is a two-year community college located in the city which serves over 10,000 students. Arizona State University is a 14 mile drive from Chandler, located in Tempe. There are several school districts which cater to the city.
