Mesa, Arizona
Mesa is a rapidly-growing community located near Phoenix, Arizona. It is served by several freeways, has access to common urban amenities and home prices that range from very affordable single-family homes to upper-middle class dwellings. It is a fairly large section of the Phoenix area, being larger than Cleveland, Miami and several other cities whose names are more well-known. It is an extremely popular city for those moving to the area and its growth rate is consistently among the nation's highest.
The city has ample shopping centers and other conveniences. Among the most popular are the Fiesta Mall, properly located in west Mesa, Mesa Riverview, an outdoor shopping area and the Superstition Springs Center, which has its own amphitheatre. These locations contain most of the large national retail chains.
Mesa also has several cultural and arts attractions which are popular with residents and visitors to the community. These include the Mesa Arts Center, the Mesa Amphitheatre, the Arizona Museum of Natural History, several public libraries and HoHoKam Park of the Cactus League. The HoHoKam Park is the spring training grounds for the Chicago Cubs.
Mesa has Arizona's characteristic architectural elements, including low buildings, even in the commercial areas. There is only one skyscraper located in the city, owned by Bank of America.
Far in the past, Mesa was the location of the most developed set of canals in the New World. The builders of these canals transformed the land around them into an agriculturally viable area, with over 110,000 acres able to be subjected to irrigation from this extensive system. Some of these canals are still used today though the people who constructed them disappeared from the Earth long ago. Today, this vibrant community attracts people from all over the nation to enjoy its growing and beautiful environs. |
